Holiday travelers are often the ones who fall off the fitness wagon the hardest during the last months of the year. Long flights, sleeping on the in-laws' couch and huge family meals usually don't inspire most people to hit the gym. However, remaining consistently active is key to a healthy lifestyle -- one that is much harder to maintain (obviously) when one disappears from the treadmill or weight room for two to three months a year.

It's for these reasons that the Village Health Clubs and Spas has put together this handy guide for those who will brave crowded airports and cross-country drives to spend the holidays with their loved ones. Remember, not all of these tips have to be completed in one sitting, but try to do at least one workout or fitness-related activity every day.

Staying in a Hotel?

  • Do 50 squats and 50 incline push-ups (using the side of the bed or the counter top) before you hop in the shower

Can't Make it to the Gym?

Try this at-home workout:

  • 20 squats
  • 10 step-ups leading with right leg
  • 10 step-ups leading with left leg
  • 20 mountain climbers
  • 20 walking lunges
  • 20 sit-ups
  • Do entire workout 3-5 times

Still Have Shopping to Do?

When carrying shopping bags give yourself a posture check:

  • make sure you’re standing up tall not hunched over
  • pull your shoulder blades together and down your back
  • drop your shoulders away from your ears
  • Pull your belly button into your spine

Still Can't Make it to the Gym?

Give yourself an ultimatum, if you do not get to the gym make yourself do one of the following:

  • 50 squats
  • 50 push-ups
  • 50 sit-ups or pike ups
  • take a walk/go for a run
  • say NO to something unhealthy
  • schedule an appointment IN YOUR PLANNER to go to the gym tomorrow ... and GO!

And if, for some reason, you still can't find time to work out or to at least do some physical activity then live by this simple rule: No gym, no sweets.
